Laura S. Moore
Areas of Practice
Laura S. Moore practices in the area of complex civil litigation, including plaintiff's personal injury, telecommunications law, and intellectual property litigation. In her 16 years of practice, Ms. Moore has substantial experience representing plaintiff's in personal injury matters, including automobile collisions, wrongful death, and bad-faith insurance disputes.
In addition, Ms. Moore has represented numerous business clients with commercial contract disputes and intellectual property disputes. Such matters have recently included commercial software disputes, claims of copyright infringement and claims involving theft of trade secrets arising from the Colorado Uniform Trade Secrets Act. Ms. Moore also practices in the area of wills, estate planning, elder law, and adoptions. Ms. Moore has served as a court appointed conservator, and has experience in establishing guardianships and conservatorships. In addition to her courtroom practice, Ms. Moore has also represented clients in arbitration and mediation.
Among other cases:
- She was part of a legal team that successfully litigated a breach of promissory note and fraud case, Rayback v. Powell, recognized by the Boulder Daily Camera as the fifth largest jury verdict in Boulder County in 1997.
- With the assistance of the Denver District Attorney’s office, she successfully secured the return to her elderly client of a residence that had been fraudulently transferred to a deceptive caregiver.
- She obtained a six-figure settlement for a victim of a motor vehicle collision who had a traumatic brain injury.
- She defended a personal representative during a will challenge in Weld County and obtained a successful jury verdict in the case of The Estate of Paul Heinze.
- She was part of a legal team that recovered $250,000 for a Broomfield woman in an insurance bad faith case.
- She was part of a legal team that obtained a $2.5 million policy limits settlement for an injured family of four. Ms. Moore also assisted in the approval of the minor’s personal injury settlement with the Boulder County District Court.
Education
Ms. Moore received her Juris Doctorate from the Willamette University College of Law, in Salem, Oregon in 1993. While in law school, she was a published member of the Willamette Law Review Staff, with the featured article, “Oregon’s Elective Share in a Nonprobate World. The Surviving Spouse’s Demand for Statutory Reform.” 29 Will. L. Rev. 1 (Winter 1993). Ms. Moore achieved honors in trial practice, and served as a student member of the Curriculum Committee.
\In May of 1987, Ms. Moore received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Colorado in Boulder. During her tenure at the University of Colorado, she was on the Dean’s List. Ms. Moore was active in the Greek System, and served as the President of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and as a Panhellenic Counsel Representative. She fulfilled her passion for music (piano and voice) as a proud three-year member of the University of Colorado Collegiate Chorale.
Bar and Professional Activities
Ms. Moore has been a licensed member of Colorado Bar since October of 1993 and the United States District Court, for the District of Colorado since 2000. Ms. Moore is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and Boulder Bar Association. Ms. Moore is a former Board of Director of the Boulder Women’s Bar Association. Ms. Moore is a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. Ms. Moore served as a mentor lawyer and Judge for the Brighton, Colorado Teen Court Program for three years. Ms. Moore served as a Judge for the Boulder Mock Trial Competition in 2008. Ms. Moore was also the author of an article in Boulder’s Women’s Magazine, July 1998, “Settling the Minor’s Personal Injury Settlement.”
