Areas of Practice
Sarah A. Croog practices complex commercial litigation with an emphasis in business disputes, telecommunications law, intellectual property, and personal injury. In addition to appearing in state and federal court, Ms. Croog represents clients in arbitration and mediation.
Among other cases:
- In a five-day jury trial in Boulder County involving trespass and other property damage, Ms. Croog was on the trial team that won the plaintiffs a substantial jury verdict in their favor. Prior to trial, the defendants offered to settle the matter only if the plaintiffs paid them $40,000.
- Ms. Croog was part of the trial team that defended Qwest Communications International in an 11-day commercial arbitration involving claims of breach of contract and theft of trade secrets. Discovery in the matter involved hundreds of thousands of documents and 16 witnesses in several states. During arbitration, the plaintiff requested an award of more than $5 million. The arbitrator ultimately awarded the plaintiff $0.
- In a pro bono matter, Ms. Croog represented a single mother in a debt collection trial. Even though the court found that a contract existed between the debt collection company and Ms. Croog’s client for the amount of damages sought in the case, the court awarded the debt collection company less than 1/3 of what it was seeking.
- Ms. Croog represented a client accused of trespass in an action before the Nez Perce Tribal Court. The matter was successfully resolved after the Nez Perce Court of Appeals reversed the lower court, holding that the Tribal Court had no subject matter jurisdiction over a non-Indian defendant. Ms. Croog assisted in developing the case and drafting the briefs in support of the motion to dismiss.
- Ms. Croog regularly files trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and advises her clients in how best to protect their intellectual property.
Education
Ms. Croog received a B.A. in Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College in 2001. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Croog attended graduate school at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where she studied mathematics with an emphasis on algebraic geometry.
Ms. Croog received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Colorado School of Law in 2006. During law school, she was a finalist in the Rothgerber Moot Court competition and served on its executive board. Additionally, she provided transactional legal services for Colorado start-ups and small businesses in the entrepreneurial law clinic.
During an externship with Judge Joseph E. Meyer III in Denver District Court while in her third year of law school, Ms. Croog decided to focus her practice on litigation and trial work.
Bar and Professional Activities
Ms. Croog was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2006. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. She is a member of the Boulder and Colorado Bar Associations. She coaches high school mock trial.
